Why desires n wishes need to be controlled?

We human beings live with our small desires and wishes in our daily life.  As our one small wish gets fulfilled,  we immensely fell in the ocean of happiness.  It feels like someone longing for the rain is suddenly get drenched in the showers .

After a few days or few months pass by , a new desire take birth in our little mind . We again start running to catch hold of it. The vivacious circle keep us rolling in the path of life . This never ending process keep us awake in our lives. This race is never won. Even you read various scriptures and hear few of those learned people , you will be surprised to know how these small desires and wishes are the cause of pain in our life

What does the ancient scriptures say about desires :

The holy scripture Gurbani also tells the same
ਬਹਤੀ ਮਨਸਾ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਬਾਂਧਿ ॥: Keep your flowing desires (pulsating from the senses-ਸਰੀਰਕ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ) restrained. (sggs 342).

Desires never end. Even when you get what you want , you ask for something little better that that. I remember a story while teaching to my students.

A mice does not want to get married a mouse as she considers it as weak. She want to get married to someone powerful. So , her parents went to Sun. Sun considers clouds to be more powerful. They went to clouds. But clouds consider wind to be more powerful as they can easily to be moved away by it. Wind consider wall to be powerful. To the surprise, wall consider rats to be more powerful as they can easily make holes in them. Finally she had to get married with the rat only.

The way God has created us is the best. What he has given is the best for us. Everyone in this world have some weaknesses and some strengths too. No two people in this world can be compared. Individuality is incomparable. Hence what others have but you don’t have , is not a point to be discussed. Train your thoughts n mind.

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar beautifully explains how to handle desires with a conversation between krishna and Arjuna from holy scripture Bhagwad Gita.

One who is satisfied, content with oneself, he is the one who is centered, who is enlightened. One who is not hanging onto desires and crying over them, just takes them as they come, and says, “Okay, fine, goodbye.” That any desire shouldn’t arise in life is also another desire. You can go on that trip, “Oh, I want to get rid of all the desires!” Do you know what the ancient saints and Gurus used to say? “When sunlight comes, a candle has no meaning.” You don’t have to blow out the candle, just bring it into the sunlight; the candle will lose its significance by itself. Similarly, if you have a greater vision in the mind, the small desires will lose their significance. When they lose their significance, it’s as good as you saying goodbye to them.

Even Buddhism,  desires are considered to be the root cause of sufferings n pain. Out of the five precepts of Buddhism,  one is – Refrain from taking what is not given. Not stealing from anyone. You are not having, don’t desire for it. Do the karma and all which is good for you will be served to you..

Life quotes, desires , control your desires

A desire to be loved is also a disturbance . When you want something and you don’t get than you feel sad . This ‘ want ‘ or ‘ need’ to be thrown away from our life. I will do my best and best will come to me will keep you happy…!!! Do the Karma and leave the rest to HIM – THE SUPREME POWER !!!
